Art and the Bible Characters

Art and the Bible Character List

Francis Schaeffer

Schaeffer's essays are informed by his own experiences and his difficulty in reconciling art and religion in his life. Through these essays, he hopes to afford other religious people some comfort in the knowledge that their artistic endeavors are not necessarily in conflict with their faith.

Moses

In his essays, Schaeffer writes about many biblical figures, including Moses. In the section "Art and the Tabernacle," Schaeffer explores the Ten Commandments and the role of Moses within this biblical story.

Francis Bacon

Schaeffer alludes to philosopher Francis Bacon when speaking about the role of religion and art in a person's life. He states that he does not necessarily agree with Bacon about everything but does agree with the following quote:

"Man by the Fall fell at the same time from his state of innocence and from his dominion over nature. Both of these losses, however, can even in this life be some part repaired: the former by religion and faith, the latter by the arts and sciences."
