Theatre Program

Everyone belongs to many different communities and/or groups defined by (among other things) shared geography, religion, ethnicity, income, cuisine, interest, race, ideology, or intellectual heritage. Choose one of the communities to which you belong, and describe that community and your place within it.


One of the communities I belong to is the Vistamar Theatre Program. We're a very tight group, because at a small school, the number of theatre kids is limited. The theatre community here is just like a family. While there is competition for parts and naturally people get upset if they don't get the part they want, there are no long-term grudges, and we all love and respect each other inside rehearsal and out. This was brought home to me just the other day. I was asking my mom about applying for the New York Trip, a trip taken by the theatre department where 20 students are selected by application to travel to the Big Apple with our director to see three Broadway shows and attend multiple acting workshops. She asked if I would be okay even if my best friends weren't part of the selected 20, and when I responded yes, I really meant it. While I'm closer to some people than others, I'm glad to say that I would sincerely enjoy spending time with anyone in the theatre program. When I joined Vistamar theatre freshman year and did my first show, the warmth I felt from everyone in the cast and crew, and the valuable mentorship I experienced from the core seniors, cemented my desire to become a mainstay of the program.
