Chapter 2, section 2
The preceding chapter had Winston noticing the mournful prisoners. The tone is dark, empty and grey. Chapter 2 of part 2 has Winston walking walking through nature for his rendezvous with Julia. The tone is much more light and colourful. It's hard to say there is hope but at least, for the first time in the novel, there is not merely grey and emptiness.
