In the novel, Uncle Tom's Cabin, a mother's love for her children is portrayed as the most powerful kind of love. Stowe conveys the inhumanity of slavery by depicting the agony of slave mothers, as they are torn from their children. She also illustrates how a mother's love provides courage and strength in horrific circumstances, (example: Eliza finding the courage within herself to cross the river).
