Garvey asks is Cole has settled, but Cole replies "How do you settle into a prison?" Garvey points to his head and says "Its all up here." (Page 119) What do you think Garvey means? 

Garvey means that things are merely how people perceive them to be. Cole can either look at his time on the island as an opportunity to learn about himself or as a prison to brood and feel sorry for himself. How people react to situations is often a choice. This is a great learning and healing opportunity for Cole if he can let go of his anger and make the best of it.
