After the storm passes, what reminds Cole of the circle Garvey spoke of?

Cole thinks of the little birds that fall off their nest and die. Cole is quite touched by this especially because he is near death himself. Cole reflects on his own place in the worls and how he is merely a small part of a greater circle of life. He can chose to add to it or simply die in obscurity.
