The Radely house was the stuff of town myth. Boo Radely had become something of a preoccupation with the neighbourhood kids. Childhood rumour combined with tacit acceptance by many adults turned the illusive Boo into something of a monster. This of course prompts Dill, Jem and Scout to hatch plots to get Boo's attention. The first dare simply had Dill run to Boo's door, knock on it and run back. This was the first of many attempts the kids made to "tempt fate".
