I might consider Mrs. Dubose again. After Scout and Jem discover Mrs. Dubose's past and her addiction to morphine, they see that she is actually brave about kicking her morphine addiction before she dies.

She said she meant to break herself of it before she died, and that's what she did.....She was the bravest person I ever knew.
