on page 4 chapter one the text states that simon "made a pile practicing medicine," what are the clues that leads to what that quote means?

we knnow that the quote mean he became very wealthy but what clues lead up to that ?

The main clue is the word apothecary, which is a word that defines someone who prepares and sells medicine.

All we had was Simon Finch, a fur-trapping apothecary from Cornwall whose piety was exceeded only by his stinginess.
