Atticus thought it was a fine idea for Scout and Jem to attend Church. Calpurnia was family and Atticus wanted his kids to experience more. Cal was proud to bring the Finch kids to church, they were her kids too. Cal and her white kids showing up to a black church was the essence of what Harper Lee wanted to get across.
