A paradox is a seemingly contradictory statement that actually makes sense. London was all about naturalism. The man was alive, his blood pumping through his veins just like his dogs. The dog, hover has more sense than the man, he wants to hide and stop travelling. The man's blood too is so affected by the cold, it is telling the man's body to stop moving forward. Hope that makes sense!
