Certainly the masculine elements of Igbo culture shaped Okonkwo. He overcompensated for his father who he considered weak. Okonkwo embraced the patriarchal culture but took it to extremes. Okonkwo became a misogynist who was paranoid about looking feminine or weak. He embraced battle and violence to validate his masculinity.
