what might happen to Jon and the narrator after the story ends?

If the narrator can return from the insanity forced upon her, I would hope that she would collect her child and run far away from John. I know this was not the era of female emancipation from emotionally abusive husbands, but really anywhere would be better than with John. I imagine that her breakdown might actually be a turning point in her life. As for John, I would imagine that he might continue his passive aggressive control over his wife in order to keep her locked in the relationship.
