The Wind in the Willows

Carpenter has commented that Toad is meant “to represent Everyman as much as are Mole and Rat, but in his case Everyman run riot.” Do you agree with his assessment?

What does Toad represent in your opinion?

Toad is a unique individual. He represents the spirit of abandonment and adventure that many of us might dream about but are too restrained to do. Not all of us are obsessed with motorcars and speeding but Toad represents what many of us might do were we not constrained by societal norms and polite manners.
