The Things They Carried

Why does the narrator adopt a flat and emotionless tone in "The Things They Carried" eventhough the setting and the events described are dramatic and moving?

Give some examples

An emotionless tone means the narrator is trying to be somewhat objective because all war is emotional and could upset everyone. Nearly every event could have "drama" attached to it, and each event elicits different emotions from any observer or reader.
