Lily's interest in Mary proves she's open minded and curious. Lily's town was basically Baptist and Methodist, she didn't know any Catholics, and had been taight to offer them the five-part plan of salvation when she did. Lily obviously doesn't follow the plan, and she does exhibit interest in Black Mary.
