One usually starts with a general topic sentence like that and then moves to the specific. I think that is a pretty good topic sentence. After that I would pick a few more specific points that deal with sin and redemption in the poem. You might consider the killing of the albatross (sin) and his love for slimy snakes (redemption) by the end of the poem.
