The Rime of the Ancient Mariner

in part 1 and part 2 of the rime of ancient mariner, we are told of different directions of the journey of the mariner.Please elaborate and suggest some important questions which i need to prepare for the exam.

In the first part it is said that the mariner was traveling towards the south and the the second part it is said that the mariner was traveling towards the north.How is there a sudden change in the direction without any notable change in the direction of the wind????

also suggest some important questions which may come the exams from both part 1 and 2
