After the mariner blesses the snakes, what happens first to show that the curse is lifted?

As soon as the mariner blesses the snakes he regains his ability to pray. Coupled with this, the albatross is removed from around his neck-

And I blessed them unaware.

The self same moment I could pray;

And from my neck so free

The Albatross fell off, and sank

Like lead into the sea.
