After the officer rides away, the lieutenant says that he is a fool for thinking they did not fight hard in the field. The colonel tells him that it is his own affair, and he did not ask for anyone else's opinion. Instead of getting angry; Henry chalks the outcome up to bad luck. Wilson agrees.
