Crane usually calls Henry "the youth" what reason might he have for for that?

Crane wants Henry to represent the innocence of the young entering a man's world much too soon. The "youth" could be any boy thrust into a world of death and destruction. His visions of heroism and excitement melt away as th gunfire draws near and his world plunges into hell.
