Why does Kino think the killing of a man is not as evil as the killing of a boat

A boat means lively hood for a man's family. It is a man's pride and essence.

The boat can provide a livelihood for an entire family and can be the only possession a man might have to implement that livelihood. The lost or killed boat takes away his manhood if he can no longer provide for his family and those who depend on him.
