what metaphor is used to describe Kino's hope and excitement as he searches for pearls?

It's difficult to know exactly which metaphor that you mean. Kino thinks he hears the song of "The Pearl that Might Be" in his head which is a metaphor for chance. It is a chance that God or the Gods might favour him that day. Pg. 16 (my copy)
