What stands out to you the most about the environment that George and Sam grow up in? What lessons have the boys learned that help them get by?

Both boys grow up in a harsh urban inner-city community. Young men are frequently swept into a life of crime because that is all they know and they feel that they have few other options. The boys quickly learn that crime and drugs are tickets to nowhere. There had to be an alternative.
