Yes, this is actually a good point. Initially we think that Pony is unique by his interest in poetry, movies and sunsets. Pony is unique to a point but we quickly learn that the other main characters are just as passionate and intense as Ponyboy. Darry is filled with drive to keep his family intact. Dally is intensely loyal and sensitive under his tough exterior. Johnny desperately wants his parents to give a damn about him. All the boys share a similar destiny and approach life with an almost violent passion that the SOCS can only dream of.
