How does the old man look at the sea?and how the other fishermen experence the sea?why

He felt that the sea was his mistress and the animals were his friends. Santiago felt the sea was a woman with many moods. She could be loving and seductive or angry and vengeful. Other fishermen saw the sea in less romantic terms. The sea was merely a place they worked and caught fish.
