How did M. Loisel contribute to the cost of the new necklace?

Madame Loisel contributed to paying off the necklace by giving up the luxuries she enjoyed. She and her husband got a smaller apartment and let go of their maid. She took on all of the household chores..... she cooked, cleaned, did the laundry, took out the garbage, carried in fresh water, and did her own shopping.
