What are you impressions of General Zarrof based on indirect characterizations?

The guy is pretty crazy. He lives alone in some gothic mansion on an uninhabited island. Sure he has Ivan but he's not much of a talker. All Zaroff does is read and hunt people for kicks at night. Zaroff seems refined and "civilized" but we all know he's crazy. He's a pretty flat character. He's kind of entertaining but hardly believable in any context.
