Minho told Thomas a story he remembered about a woman trapped in a maze. The woman escaped from the maze by never allowing her right hand to leave the walls. Thus, she was forced to take every right turn, something that insured she'd find her way out (laws of physics and geometry). It makes sense because by using your right hand and only following its lead, you would backtrack and end up where you started.
