Artie sees Ruth sitting at a picnic table outside. They talk about how each of them found out about Susie’s death. Artie’s father sat him and his sister down and told them a “little girl” had been killed. Ruth already knew Susie had died but she saw it in the paper that her dad was reading. It starts to rain, and Ruth suggests they just get wet. Artie goes under the table. The rain suddenly stops and the sun comes out. Ruth quietly says that she thinks Susie listens.
