I find Tess to be the most memorable, as her objections to the lottery didn't appear until her family was chosen. She is weak, in that she didn't have a problem with the lottery until her family was singled out. She was a hypocrite because the lottery didn't become unfair until her own life was at stake.

The dialogue and characters are very realistic and very believable. Jackson drew upon her own experiences to envision the community, in which she'd grown up.
