studying slavery and the slave trade?

I believe this novel to be a great illustration of the state of slavery and the slave trade, although as a basis for those lessons. The story we live in this novel is fascinating, but many of the facts therein cannot be taken as fact..... they're simply made up, imagined, or originated in another form.
