The main goal of the competition is to be the last tribute standing, or should I say the last tribute alive. The title of the novel is significant, in that the winner of the Games will gain food and other necessities for their district. Katniss' district, District 12, is the perfect example of a community in which residents are starving..... they suffer from "hunger", thus The Hunger Games.
