Aside from the fact that Judge Pyncheon was an ancestor to the Colonel there were some differences. Physically Jaffrey was a smaller and paler version of the colonel. Where the Colonel went through three wives Judge Jaffrey only had one that could not stand him and died as a way out of the marriage. While the Colonel had many children and grandchildren poor Jaffrey had only one son who died. The Colonel was a stern man who din't mince words or meaning. Jaffrey on the other hand hid behind an act of cheerfulness. Both, however, shared the same life. Both were prominent men in the community. They were both wealthy, successful, greedy and determined to see things go their way.
