After finishing the letter, Dr. Mortimer is surprised to see Holmes yawn; he thinks the tale is only interesting to a "collector of fairytales": he would rather read the newspaper that has factual information. At the end of the reading, the doctor does, however, produce a current newspaper article that explains the death of Sir Charles Baskerville, the most recent bearer of the family name. Now Holmes's interest is peaked.
