Why were the Great Goblin and many of his soldiers so upset when they saw Thorins sword?

The goblins recognized the sword as the same one that had killed hundreds of goblins in the past. It was often referred to by the name Orcrist; the goblins simply called it Biter. The goblins desperately hated and feard both the sword and anyone who carried it.
