Janine is the model of subservience to the state, "I feel I can rely on you, Janine, Aunt Lydia would have said...." Janine would automatically recite "May the lord open", whenever she felt her cue was. Moria, on the other hand, is described with violent rebellious language. When trying to escape from exercise class she threatens Aunt Elizabeth, " Don't move , said Moira, or I'll stick it all the way in." Moira was holding something sharp against her ribs.
