Coruupted by money would mean that an individual or society had become completely immune and or distance from everything except the accumulation of wealth. Many people have lost the things they love most attempting to achieve the American Dream, and Gatsby's journey to achieving the American Dream was filled with corruption in the form of illegal investments.
