Nick sees Gatsby's obsession with Daisy as an illusion that through no fault of her own begins to diminish shortly after their first moments alone together. He sees Tom as a fool, and he views Jordan as an intimate, but as Nick is probably the only character in the novel to see people for what they really are, he has no problem admitting that his relationship with Jordan will end, but to end it.
