How are the major characters in the grapes of wrath introduced?

I can't go through every single character on this space. In general, they are introduced as largely sympathetic and resilient characters that are taken advantage of by banks and landowners. Steinbeck forms a connection between the reader and these characters, which is important as we follow them on their journey.
