The Giver

Both the Giver and Jonas, the Receiver, experience the urge to pass on memories to another. What kind of memories does each of them choose to give up, and what are their motives for doing so?

please help I can't find this in the book.

The Giver will eventually have to give up all his memories to Jonas, as Jonas will one day take his place. The Giver gives him pleasant memories at first.... then he gives him memories of things that aren't so pleasant, hoping that the good memories will outweigh the bad. Jonas, on the other hand, passes on memories to Gabriel..... mostly to calm him, hopefully, to help him find a placement within a family, and finally...... to help him survive their flight from the community...... their flight to Elsewhere.
