The dark gothic elements are usually a part of Poe’s writing: especially in Fall of the House of Usher. All the hallmarks of gothic writing are there. The large mysterious castle filled with shadows, mysterious hallways, and crevices is front and centre in the story. The narrator even mentions "the Gothic archway of the hall". Finally, Madeline coming back as a zombie and the house collapsing on a stormy night is further evidence of the gothic genre.
