Why did Mrs. Van Daan call Anne a spoiled child while they were having dinner? How did Mr. Frank interrupt her?

Mrs. Van Daan said that Anne was spoiled because she refused another helping of potatoes. Mr. Frank interrupted, putting Mrs. Van Daan in her place, and essentially complimenting his daughter on her restraint and lack of response.
