what was your favourite part of the book?

My favorite part of the novel takes place on St. Nicholas Day in 1943. I love the way the members of the annex work to make it special..... writing poems, figuring out what to give as small gifts.... it shows that celebrations don't have to be opulent, and that even in the worse circumstances, people look to celebrate the good.
