We don't get a very good description of Anne's home prior to moving into the annex. We do know she had her own bed, privacy, and freedom of movement. The annex, on the other hand, was crowded. Anne had to share a room (with the dentist), and the living conditions were unlike any she'd ever known. Movement was limited, as the family could only move about at certain times of the day. They were unable to leave, had too many cooks in the kitchen, and no entertainment. Games, books, and the radio were their only options. They had to depend on others for their survival and lived in fear of being discovered.
