Peter tells her how he has difficulty expressing himself verbally and used to beat people up when he was angry, rather than arguing. Peter tells her that he will hide his Jewish ancestry when the war is over; his "tinge of honesty" disappoints Anne. She feels that he is insecure and needs affection.
