This speaks to the joy that can be found even in the midst of suffering. Though cramped and constrained, the people in the annex celebrated birthdays and festivals. This is a testament to the resilience and indomitable spirit of the eight members of the annex. It also serves as an example of hope and light in the darkness of the horrors going on outside of their little hiding place.
