Yes, I think that making arrangements in their shared room was important for both of them.

At the same time she was manipulating the old man to get her way.

Yes, she definitely indulges in a bit of manipulation, but none-the-less...... she's a young girl sharing her own room with a grown man. They each needed their space.............. for sure.
