Peter defers to his parents, which would make one consider him a good son. His mother is a bit overbearing, something that may have contributed to what Anne considered his weak nature.

Anne initially finds Peter weak and boring, although they later develop a strong friendship and romance. Their romance (first love) is short-lived; Anne does not like Peter's clinging or the fact that he is not religious.
