It is important to remember that Anne was just a teenage girl. She had all the angst and emotional conflicts of any adolescent girls. THese conflicts were just magnified in the annex. The annex was so small and confining Anne had no room to grow on her own, she had no privacy. Anne could not escape and go for a walk or see a friend when a conflict happened. THere was no space between Anne and her mother or even cranky old Mr. Dussel and her.
